On July 28–30, on the initiative of Prof. Kazimierz Bęcek, the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformatics at Wrocław University of Science and Technology organized a course entitled “Introduction to SAR Interferometry” for a group of 18 surveyors from Malaysia, members of the Association of Authorised Land Surveyors Malaysia, representing around 500 licensed surveyors (the equivalent of our licensed surveyor holding all possible surveying qualifications).
The participants were welcomed in building H-14 by the authorities of the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology – Professor Gabriela Paszkowska. This was followed by an address from the main course coordinator, Professor Kazimierz Bęcek, who presented a detailed plan for the three days of activities. The opening event was also attended by Professor Paweł Bogusławski and Ms. Sylwia Porucznik, head of one of the departments at the Provincial Inspectorate of Geodesy and Cartography in Wrocław. After a short ride on the “Polinka” cable car, the rest of the course took place in the computer lab at the Geocentrum building on Na Grobli Street.
On the second day, thanks to the courtesy of the Lower Silesian Province Surveyor – Mr. Marek Bittner – we visited the Department of Geodesy and Cartography at the Marshal’s Office. During the visit, Mr. Bittner presented the scope of the unit’s activities, with particular emphasis on the databases maintained and the use of satellite and aerial imagery. The meeting led to an interesting discussion about the similarities and differences in how the surveying and cartographic administration operates in Poland and Malaysia.
On the third day, we had the honour of listening to a lecture by our guest, LSr Ahmad Wizan Bin Mohd Thani, entitled “Brief on Land Administration and Cadastral System in Peninsular Malaysia”, which was held in an open format for the staff of our Department.
The course, which was very well received by the participants, was taught by specialists from our unit: Professor Kazimierz Bęcek, Professor Wojciech Milczarek, Dr. Dariusz Głąbicki, and Dr. Michał Dudek (Cadastral System and Real Estate Valuation in Poland).
On behalf of the Department authorities, we would like to express our thanks to Ms. Aleksandra Kaczmarek, Mr. Tomasz Słoniński, and the administrative staff of the Faculty for their assistance in organizing the event.
