Geotop Day with the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformatics

Date: 07.10.2025

As every year, on the first Saturday of October, the Geotop Day took place in the Geopark Muskau Arch, perfectly organized by the Lipinki Forest District.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, visitors turned up in great numbers, as usual.

During this year’s event, we presented the projects carried out at our Department and encouraged participants to pursue geo-related studies at the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology.

We presented the project “Digital Journey through the Muskau Arch Geopark”, which we carry out together with the EVTZ, who were also present at the Geotope Day, as well as TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

The project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund under the INTERREG Poland–Saxony 2021–2027 Cooperation Programme. Its aim is to recreate the cultural and mining heritage sites of the Polish–Saxon border region in an augmented reality environment and to develop an interactive tourist experience. This was the first of a series of three thematic events promoting the project on both sides of the border. Current project updates are published on the website https://digitalgeopark.pwr.edu.pl/en/

The second project we presented, focuses on investigating the origin and progress of anthropogenic and natural ground deformations in the post-mining areas of the former “Babina” brown coal mine, taking into account the influence of hydrogeological conditions on the deformation processes of post-mining terrains. The project is carried out under the OPUS-22 programme of the National Science Centre.

We are already looking forward to next year's event!
